Fun news! We launched an online video series called “The Design Minute,” where I will share design tips, new products, and just stuff I think is cool that you may, too! Be sure to follow my social media pages to let me know what you think and what I should cover next.

In the first episode, I am talking shower doors, which is part of this issue’s focus on updating the condo bathroom – or any bathroom, really. These little rooms serve as our quiet haven from the world, now more than ever, as we work remotely and stay safe by staying home.

But despite the efficient use of condo space and streamlined living conditions, don’t despair: even small(er) bathrooms can be refreshed to ensure your sanctuary stays stylish. It’s all in the finishes!

White bathroom

While there are a number of different components to think about when it comes to your bathroom reno, a key consideration is your shower doors. I love clear glass doors, so we’ll focus on those.

Depending on the shape and size of your shower, you have a number of different options, including whether you really need one at all.

  • Sliding Doors:

When you have a longer base thus more glass surface. It gives you more space inside and outside the shower itself, and great looking barn door type hardware options.

  • Swing Doors:

Great for smaller showers, but remember they may need to swing both in and out, but provide a cleaner look with less hardware required.

Both will come with various frame options, and a supplier such as Fleurco.com, will have doors featuring chrome, brushed nickel, and matte black frames. For a cleaner, sleek look, select a frameless option.

Three tips for finishing off your space:

  1. Hand-Held Shower

Having both a standard shower head as well as a hand-held option is ideal, but if you have to choose one, pick hand-held as it makes cleaning considerably easier.

  2. Clean or Replace Grout

Grout darkens over time. It collects dirt and dust more so than the tiles themselves. So, as a rule, I recommend avoiding white, and using higher quality product.

  3. LED

Lighting is key in a bathroom. In addition to overhead lighting, also make sure to have lighting in front of your face. The great solution is a LED vanity mirror or LED medicine cabinet.

Pro Tip:

If your fixtures need a refresh, this is where it’s time to splurge a bit! Select something of quality that will stand up to regular use, looks great, and don’t forget to do the cabinet door hardware, too!
