National Pet Month

Cat and dog cuddling

Those amazing animals. They comfort us, make us laugh, play with us, and rely unconditionally on us. It’s only fitting, therefore, that they should be recognized for a full month each April (as much as they’re actually true family all year-round).

Dogs

They’re man’s best friend. They make for terrific companions and ask for very little in return, other than to be fed, walked, and loved. Dogs are also very useful at keeping you fit, as they love accompanying you on walks and runs.

Cats

Compared to dogs, cats are smaller, quieter, and more independent. But they still make excellent companions since they need to be loved, and they also love to love in return. A cat is the perfect size for petting, stroking, and snuggling.

Fish

You may not be able to hug them, but fish are wonderful, low-maintenance pets who can calm and fascinate you. It’s reported that watching a fish swim at length will not only slow heart rate, but also reduce blood pressure.

Birds

Simply put, birds are beautiful. They come in a vast array of colours, and are truly a sight to behold. Many of them welcome contact with you, and it’s a lot of fun to watch them dart around the room if you can.

There are numerous other options for condo pets as well. Creatures like hamsters or snakes make for interesting companions – if you’re brave enough, that is (in reality, almost all of them are quite harmless).

Make sure to consider how often you happen to be at home, since some animals crave constant companionship. And to be fair to both yourself and your companion, do some financial planning to ensure you can afford maintenance of a pet’s lifestyle long-term.

Wishing you and your loved companions a happy National Pet Month 2021!
