Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich

“Honey, can you make me a sandwich?!” These are words that have been spoken many times throughout the years, and for good reason. Sandwiches – though very simple to make – are one of the best gifts given to mankind! In our opinion, pretty much any sandwich is pretty fantastic, but if you want one that is going to make your taste buds blast off to another level, give this “Naughty” Philly Cheesesteak a try! Your waistline may not be too happy, but your mouth definitely will be 😉

INGREDIENTS
  • 4 oz ribeye steak, trimmed and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 sweet onion (large), diced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 slices mild provolone cheese
  • 1 hoagie roll sliced 3/4 through
  • 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 garlic clove, pressed
  • 1/2 – 1 tbsp mayonnaise to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil for cooking
DIRECTIONS
  1. Slice hoagie roll 3/4 of the way through with a serrated knife. Dice onion, slice mushrooms and green bell pepper, and thinly slice beef.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together 1/2 tbsp softened butter with 1/4 pressed garlic clove. Spread garlic butter onto the cut side of the hoagie roll. Toast the bun on a large skillet, flat cooktop or griddle on medium heat until golden brown then set aside.
  3. Add 1 tbsp oil to your pan/cooktop and sauté diced onion, sliced mushrooms and green bell pepper until caramelized then transfer to a bowl.
  4. Increase to high heat and add 1 tbsp oil. Spread the super thinly sliced steak in an even layer. Let brown for a couple of minutes undisturbed then flip and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Sauté until steak is fully cooked through then stir in the caramelized onion, mushrooms and green bell pepper.
  6. Top with 2 slices of cheese and turn off the heat so the cheese will melt without overcooking the meat.
  7. Spread a thin layer of mayo on the toasted side of the roll. Place the toasted bun over the mixture, and using a spatula, scrape the cheesy beef into your bun as you flip it over. Serve warm and enjoy!
