It’s a midsummer’s evening and you’re casually strolling along a marina boardwalk in Toronto. Suddenly a warm breeze wafts over a mouth-watering scent of something deliciously fried and crispy. Could it be? Ahh, yes! Classic fish and chips! Caught your attention yet? Well, what if I told you that we have a delectable beer-battered fish recipe for you to try right at home, which might leave you feeling a little naughty since you’ll definitely be reaching for more than just one piece 😉
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
- 1 (12 oz) bottle lager (such asPabst Blue Ribbon)
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 lbs cod, cut into 12 pieces
- Salt and pepper for additional seasoning
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Lemon wedges for serving
DIRECTIONS
- In a large bowl, make batter by whisking together the flour, 1 tsp salt, Old Bay seasoning, beer, and egg. Set aside for 10 minutes.
- Using paper towels, dry cut cod pieces, and season with salt and pepper.
- Add enough oil to come up about 3 inches in a large pot and heat to 375° C.
- Coat cod in batter working in batches, then carefully drop in heated oil.
- Fry for 5–6 minutes, or until fish is golden and cooked through, flipping fish when halfway done.
- Remove fried pieces of fish and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Season with additional salt.
- Serve with lemon wedges and enjoy!
